H2 no-no

Missing water to swim in these orphans of summer have survived so far inspite of 48 hours of brutally cold weather.

Treetop turkeys.

Our elementary school has two cherry trees whose fruit lingers into early winter. They are attracting wild turkey hens who are not shy leaping and plucking the bounty. Some roost near the higher fruit and knock fruit loose to grounded birds.

Sightings

There are places I pass on my way that surprise me from time to time. Am I late for work? Should I backtrack and snap? This was worth the effort.
blueberry field tool shed
This tool shed sits back from the road and on this day it held two watchers: the crow and the kestral.

Here in my own yard something unusual is taking place. Mourning doves are ground feeders but lately have been thrashing about in the cherry tree trying to pick the sunflowers out of the feeder! This one is waiting a turn.

You crack me up!

You may not know of the accidental death of one of our ducks. She had a poor first attempt at raising a brood and her second attempt was tragic. We rescued the eggs and they started hatching last night. Here is one's epic journey to daylight.

Long time no 'net

First, the Mac died and then the lightning struck. Finally I downloaded my image files and had a chance to see the things that caught my eye.

We have had many visitors.

Interval

Not being well.... hmmm. Joni Mitchell nailed it: You don't know what you've got 'til its gone. I'm still not 100% but started shooting again because the world is exploding with change. The bride noticed a large something in the field.

turkey, tom

This large tom is at least 500 yards away. He's got the blue head, always a fashion statement.

Down by the St. Croix I watched the bumbles beeing around.

Back to work

Slacker, not

This guy is a no-nonsense type. Inspirational.

Finally, on the way home I stopped to shoot this rock, part of a group barring access to a cut.

Hope springs.

Hope is a rectangle that defines the promise of summer productivity emerging from the snow.

Hope is a pond whose contents have been depressed by a draining winter and are now being fulfilled by the resurgent meltwater of a mild spring day.
